About the visits
Visits begin with a tour of the heritage site or museum, providing the context for learning about the theme of the place and its history and past functions. This is followed by a curriculum-linked workshop that includes a short documentary film; brief re-enactments by period dressed guides, and a hands-on question and answer session linked to a prize. All sessions are kept brief to ensure complete enjoyment and understanding. Children are encouraged to ask questions and to inter-act with their guides throughout. Tours will vary according to the time of your visit and the average age of students. Choice of interactive workshops All workshops are designed to support the teaching of the Cultural Heritage & History curriculum, and build on the tour with more focused content. Each is differentiated for the appropriate age of the students, makes use of interactive technology and culminates in a question and answer session with the guide. Our visit programmes are designed to support citizenship education, historic literacy and the national curriculum. Useful visit preparation resources for each site are available at www.wirtartna.com/education.html. How to book Due to the high demand for this service, prior booking is always advised.
