FWA visit RAF Northolt in South Ruislip in July 2010.

A small team from Fondazzjoni Wirt Artna comprising of Mario Farrugia and Cleaven Desira visited RAF Northolt in South Ruislip, West London. This visit took place on invitation by the station to view their Battle of Britain fighter operations center currently under restoration.

This project is being undertaken by the station under the charge of Squadron Leader Mike Green assisted by Steve Lloyd, Head of the RAF Historic Branch and volunteers Phil and Dave. These are expected to visit our similar project at the Lascaris War Rooms later on this year.

RAF Northolt was opened in 1915 and saw extensive action during the Battle of Britain. For a short period of time in the immediate post-war years it served as the main airport for London. The operations room is Building 27 in Sector Z Operations Block which formed part of No 11 Group, Fighter Command during the Battle of Britain. Today it still remains as one of the principal bases for the RAF. Of note is the fact that this base accommodates the Royal Flight which serves HM the Queen for all her air transport.
