St Thomas Tower

Location: St Thomas Bay,Marsacala

The first set of towers was built under Grand Master Alof de Wignacourt (1601–22) who between 1609 and 1620 built six towers in all.  These towers were large and had a square shape making it resemble more like a fort.  In fact sometimes these were also given the names of fortini. Due to the lack of fortifications at that time, the towers were more meant to be strong points rather than mere watch towers. 

In fact the structures had heavy turrets and could also be armed with heavy artillery on the roofs.  In times of war, these towers could also be garrisoned by a sizable detachment of troops. It can be privately hired for the holding of meetings, conferences, wedding receptions, gala dinners, corporate events, private parties etc. This site, which is one of the grandest event locations in Malta is sure to offer the client a unique and unforgettable experience!
