Fondazzjoni Wirt Artna marked Armistice Day. The service commemorated the signing of the Armistice which brought an end to the First World War and remembers all those who gave their lives in service to their country since 1914 with a special ecumenical service and a two-minute-silence held at the Saluting Battery in Valletta. The ceremony was led by the Reverend Canon Fr David Wright, Chancellor of St Paul’s Cathedral, and the Reverend Canon Dr Nicholas Joseph Doublet, Diocesan Archivist.
A significant number of dignitaries and representatives of the Veterans’ Associations were involved. At the 11th hour, a gun was fired to give a start to a two-minute period of silence.
Wreaths were then laid at the foot of the temporary cenotaph by their Excellencies and attending ex-servicemen associations.
Fondazzjoni Wirt Artna wishes to thank the Armed Forces of Malta for the musicians, Corinthia Caterers for providing refreshments, Mr Colin Fitz for compèring, and all participants.
