George Cross Day Commemoration

A commemoration service marking the 83rd anniversary of the award of the George Cross to Malta by His Majesty King George VI was held on Saturday, 12th April 2025, at 11:00hrs at the Saluting Battery in Valletta. The event was organised jointly by Fondazzjoni Wirt Artna and the George Cross Island Association (G.C.I.A.). The observance included a one-minute silence, signalled by the firing of two ceremonial guns to mark its beginning and end.

The ceremony was attended by members of the diplomatic corps, representatives of the Armed Forces of Malta, the Malta Police Force, and various veterans’ associations. A wreath was laid on behalf of Fondazzjoni Wirt Artna by its Chairman, Mr Mario Farrugia.
