Visit by the Assoc. Storico Culturale Lamba Doria

A group of members from the Associazione Storico Culturale Lamba Doria of Sicily led by Dott. Alberto Moscuzza, president, was hosted by Fondazzjoni Wirt Artna at its various military museums in Valletta this Saturday. During their visit they visited the Malta Time-gun Museum, the Saluting Battery where they assisted to the noon-day gun firing, the War HQ Tunnels, the Lascaris War Rooms, the Operation Husky Museum and Room 50 at Lascaris. Throughout their visit they were shown round by Mario Farrugia, Chairman FWA.

Being focused on the military history of Sicily in particular they had shown great interest in viewing the Lascaris War Rooms which had served as US General Dwight Eisenhower, Allied Supreme Commander's Battle HQ in Operation Husky - the Allied invasion of Sicily in July 1943. They also took interest in exploring the new Operation Husky Museum which now adjoins the Lascaris War Rooms and comes free with every visit to the war rooms. The Associazione Lamba Doria through her indefatigable president Dott Moscuzza has greatly assisted FWA in the making of the new Husky Museum. Their visit ended in Room 50 at Lascaris which is the former office of the Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Navy where on 11 September 1943 Ammiraglio Alberto Da Zara, Second-in-Command of the Italian Navy had formally surrendered the Italian Fleet to Admiral of the Fleet Andrew Browne Cunningham. This surrender was a key part of the broader Armistice of Malta, which modified the initial Armistice of Cassibile signed earlier that month.

At the end of the visit various books published by the Associazione were present to FWA.
