Colonel Henry Anderson Morshead (1774?-1831), who served notably as Commander Royal Engineers and as Acting Lieutenant Governor in Malta, is an almost entirely forgotten figure. Despite an illustrious military career involving gallant operational service during the French Revolutionary and the Napoleonic Wars and distinguished military engineering throughout the long peace post-1815, he merits only two cursory mentions (as H.Anderson) in the History of the Coprs of Royal Engineers. He deserves far better, not least in recognition of his considerable achievements during his career, and in his final appointment in Malta.
