Fondazzjoni Wirt Artna marked Armistice Day with a commemorative service honouring the signing of the Armistice that ended the First World War and remembering all those who have given their lives in service to their country since 1914. The event featured a special ecumenical service and a two-minute silence held at the Saluting Battery in Valletta.
The ceremony was led by the Reverend Canon Fr David Wright, Chancellor of St Paul’s Cathedral, and the Reverend Canon Dr Nicholas Joseph Doublet, Diocesan Archivist. A large number of dignitaries and representatives from Veterans’ Associations were in attendance.
At the 11th hour, a gun was fired to signal the start of the two-minute silence, after which wreaths were laid at the foot of the temporary cenotaph by their Excellencies and the attending ex-servicemen associations.
Fondazzjoni Wirt Artna extends its thanks to the Armed Forces of Malta for providing the musicians, Corinthia Caterers for the refreshments, Mr Colin Fitz for compering, and all participants who contributed to the occasion.
