Bombs Away: Aerial Bomb Marking Day at Lascaris War Rooms

ree

It was aerial bomb marking day at the Lascaris War Rooms in Valletta today as Fondazzjoni Wirt Artna staff applied the final markings on five allied aerial bombs which are being exhibited in the part covering the Allied bombing campaign over Sicily conducted between April and June 1943 to pave the way for the sea landings. In total three British and two US bombs were restored and exhibited. WW2 bombs were marked pretty much in the same way as today with the batch number, weight, type, nature of explosive filled with and sometimes fuze. Besides the writing there were also coloured bands that identified the type of bomb from others.
